Edward J Keenan Distinguished Lectureship

The Edward J Keenan Integrative Medicine Distinguished Lectureship Series has been initiated featuring nationally well-known speakers and educators on integrative medicine.

2015 Edward J Keenan Integrative Medicine Distinguished Lecturer: Esther M Sternberg, MD

Brain Immune Interactions: The Science of the Mind-Body Connection & Implications for Health

Dr. Esther M. Sternberg, Professor and Research Director of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona, will examine the latest research in the relationship of the mind and body. She will demonstrate how understanding these concepts allows healthcare providers to judge how and when to judiciously apply complementary and alternative treatments in conjunction with classical therapeutic approaches to maintain health.

If you missed Dr. Sternberg's talk at the 2015 Oregon Collaborative for Integrative Medicine (OCIM)/SPARC Conference held on June 12, 2015, click here to view the video of her talk.

Remembering Ed… (1948 – 2014)

Dr. Edward J Keenan, PhD was one of the founders of the Oregon Collaborative for Integrative Medicine in 2003. Dr. Keenan was the Principal Investigator for the NIH Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) Education Grant that was awarded to OHSU in 2002. This grant represented a collaborative education and research partnership between OHSU, NCNM, UWS and OCOM. Dr. Keenan remained an active and engaged participant of the OCIM Board of Directors once he left OHSU to become President of the Foundation for Medical Excellence and up until his passing in 2014. He was innovative, collaborative and kind. Dr. Keenan and his colleagues started the Integrative Medicine Distinguished Lectureship as a component of the NIH CAM Education Grant and it continues today. The Distinguished Lectureship now alternates each year as a standalone event and as the keynote session for the OCIM/SPARC Conference and features nationally renowned educators, researchers and clinicians in integrative medicine and health. It is Portland's premiere integrative medicine event and although we will miss the contribution we felt that Dr. Keenan would have continued to provide to this field, his legacy will continue with the distinguished lectureship.
